The Media Strikes again! - ACA Man hunt on Drifter Video

So I’m eating dinner with my oldies while watching the tube and see my Mother’s favorite lady presenter on TV - Tracy Grimshaw! Not really listening just staring at it with a blank stare while i chow down on my fish, I see a white Nissan S14 come up making a move that is very familiar to me. DRIFTING! Without even hearing the words spewing from the TV my heart sinks, I know it ain’t gonna be good!
I’d also like to add while i was watching this i was not committing a murder or any other crime or sacrifacing a goat as the usual ingredients the common media will add to their mixture of hate to anything not socially accepted or within the realm of the “normal” or what is usually associated with ‘Hoons”.
So basically from this story its some punk busting some skids on public roads, and in no way am I or anyone else here at Drift Kulture (id even go as far to say the drifting community) that there is no problem with this act. It is stupid and irresponsible, even stupider to video this act and paste it on the internet, Now thats exactly what I SHOULD be saying if this guy pasted the video up!
After finding the FULL video that was NOT edited by ACA, it does appear that the guy was doing the video for Top Gear Australia Auditions to become the next Stig. He actually introduces himself so where is the mystery Tracy? Check the video below. However turns out Top Gear Australia better known as Freehand actually posted the video up. I don’t know about you but this really angers me and really shows the lengths that the media will go, to get ratings. Now in saying that I’m not going to sit here and play the innocent black sheep and I doubt anyone reading this can say they have never done a skid of any form on the streets, YES THAT INCLUDES YOU TRACY AND IAN LUFF! But if a poor guy is going to be framed and a sports reputation and future put in jeopardy you are going to get this sort of response!
Now again I am in no way saying that “Its all good cause it was for Top Gear” But it does really make you wonder why that part was edited from the video in the first place.. Oh thats why cause Channel 9 BOUGHT Top Gear for 2010. Yer you guys wouldnt want to give yourselves bad press would you? It does kinda feel like this community is getting given the raw end here. But i’ll be sure to forward this video on to Top Gear UK and ACA as well.
As I write this NSW basically has NO drift events other then competitions (which is two) scheduled for 2010, due to CAMS and the closure of Oran Park Raceway in Sydney’s West. Now this bad press has just made life even harder for those that work their butts off to give us drifters somewhere safe to drift and to continue to give us a good name. IDA, Drift Mob and Project D all drift clubs working hard to keep our wheels spinning in a safe LEGAL manner. This is already a uphill battle for these clubs now Tracy and the Gang just made our lives even harder just for the sake of their 15minutes of fame, what makes it even more painful to watch this is one of our own is jumping ship (Ian Luff).
Now this brings me to my point of posting this up, I challenge Tracy and the Gang at ACA to HELP us “RevHeads” get the legal participation we deserve to keep this sort of stuff off the road and then maybe Ian Luff can come save the day and help us all out as well. Lets see if ACA can put their money where their mouth is and take a NEGATIVE thing and turn it into a POSITIVE thing.

You can write whatever you want to try justify why this kid did it or whether or not ACA is trying to get ratings.
Bottom line the kid endangers the life of others on public roads, no where does it mention or show the roads are closed off @ natio or suburbia.
The action of this kid just made it alot harder for JDMer’s to drive in surburbia, let alone try to get sanctioned events @ a dedicated track.
Nice one kid, you got no sympathy comming from me; should of thought twice before showing your plates.

Must have been a slow news day… but as usual ACA takes things out of context and sensationalize them. About the only aspect they got right was showing Australian content, rather than Japanese or US footage, they have shown and said it was happening in Australia.

what sucks is.. most insurance companies wont insure your car for events like this.
Events as big as Powercruise, or even just WSID on a wednesday.
They want you to keep it off the streets.. but one false move there and bam later car.
Atleast on the streets you have a half chance of getting a claim.

no matter how you look at this,
its going to be bad for the of jdm cars,
even if its been editted, it still shows him drifting on a public road, even if he says it closed, there is no evidence of it, and i doubt that you could close nashio up for this kind of thing,
even if this was for top gear,
should of done it at a race track, not on the road,

Ya don’t have to look too far on the ACA website to see absolute gutter trash sensationalism. To me the credibility of the program and it’s journo’s are trashed. Do everyone a favour, tell everyone you know it was all a load of bullshit, start trashing their program and credibility, fight back!! I’m going to, starting right now. If Carlo wants help to sue ACA I will help. Tracy Grimshaw is a puppet and Grandpa, Ian Luff, has jumped on the band wagon cos’ he’s sick of gettin’ abused in traffic for doin’ 20k’s under the speed limit in the right hand lane on the motorway. I would feel safer driving in a car with Carlo than with grandpa any day!!! I know I’m a safer driver now for learning how to drift. There are certain situations where all the warm fuzzy safety features of a modern car are useless. Anyone who ever gets a license should at least learn basic car control.

Don’t get drummed up about it.. they’re too fukn stupid to realise that no-one else was on the road!!!
As any driver who has skills and kahunas, like Mr White Nissan on his ACA Debut, they would have other friends who are at each end of the stretch of road.. and they would have CB Radio’s indicating that the path is clear.
There is also multiple camera points along the stretch of road. Definitely spotters, and no chance of him wiping out “a family coming the other way”. Only risking his own safety - which for ACA shouldn’t really be a bad thing. They’re fukn idiots…..
End of the day though…shouldn’t post numberplates on youtube if you’re doing any ‘extra-curricular’ driving. my 2c.

just watched the video and it was a stupid thing to do but hasnt everyone done something stupid in their life. what is more annoying is that they brang in luff as if he has never done something dumb on the road. this video gives drifters a bad reputation and some people will see this video and judge us
where other people the smart ones will see that if we had tracks and track time instead of gettin screwed over this wouldnt happen. drifting has slowed down and to make it worse the news has just completely fucked it. what brings me down is that drifting is not just a motorsport to us its life,
hey Luff and ACA why dont you fuckin help us and get your shit together and try and get sponsers and shit to build a track instead of the drift clubs tryin their hardest to get places but we are dangerous.
WE are not hoons or anything like that we are a community who actually does the sport safely and someone screws up and everyone else gets judged
As a community we should stand up have a meet with all drifters nsw and anyone else wants to come over for the trip
get the news and show them that we are not hoons or dangerous and tell them that we need help. sponsers anything lets get drifting back and give us somewhere to drift so it doesnt go to the street

We all know what the media is like by now, videos like this are just giving them excuses to f*ck us over. I understand that the video was for an audition, years ago, the road would have been scouted and possibly blocked off by mates, but in every body elses eyes none of this matters, its still illegal, still dangerous. We all need to get smarter about the way videos like this are made (i realise this guy didnt post the video up himself) but i think its quite obvious that it was going to surface somewhere sometime, and the fact that its clearly in Australia just gives the media more of an excuse to pound into us (we all remember when they were trying to say those jap vids were in aus). I agree that ACA should get some form of punishment for digging up something this old and turning millions of people against this one person, the way this report was done was very unproffesional.

Beau - Love your work, but putting the actions of this video asside, Sydney has now lost Oran park, Eastern creek already costs quite a dollar to hire the Peanut track - this being the now only opportunity and place to drift LEGALLY in syd. We then have Marullan, about 1.5 - 2 hrs south of syd, the local residents and others not to be mentioned are giving the owners a hard time, complaing about sound decible levels, Little do these serial complainers know, that they are actually being distructive in their own right… so backtracking a little, ACA pretty much has a crack at labeling “us” as hoons and accuses “us” at putting the public in danger .. right?.. pretty much, though if ACA decided to put 2 and 2 together, pretty much impossible for a narrow minded media personel.. actually they are just professional liars the be precise. anyway, in the last week or 2 their have been from memory around 3 - 4 car accidents that have claimed the lives of around 6 - 10 “P plate” drivers and their helpless passengers.
these are young guys/girls that think that their “hi performace” falhoon or commonhore is actually a hi performance machine, not quite, but its definatly lacking a hi performace and un experienced driver.
instead of assisting in providing places for what we call “drift” they would rather close down circuits for the place of housing developments etc.
As mentiond their are now very very limited placed where drift can be done legally… and FYI to all those know it alls out their, their is a difference between doing burnouts and DRIFT! commo owners and corolla oweners are very differnt. just incase your just steriotyping.. hmmm
going the way it is, drift will just end up back on the street, so put your money where your mouth is ACA - stop talking rubbish that you know nothing about, Ian Luff - instead of being a hero with your 30 seconds of fame.. by the way, good acting! NOT! get on the band wagon and help us get facilities built where we can have fun till our hearts are content, and keep the streets “safe”

Crap like this makes me want to go in the opposite direction… drift on the god damn street the more people the better rub it in their faces until you got no license to rub it in with anymore… what this country needs is some real crime to set everyone heads straight or maybe a world war or invasion from north korea to put things into perspective. They act like its pure evil. People in this country are a bunch of zombies, slaves to their television and the media, not thinking for themselves but settling for 10th best, accepting whatever they are told - THAT’S what’s evil… on the scale of thing street drift isn’t bad god damn just get over it.
